Governor, thousands of WFSE/AFSCME members say unison to Senate Majority: “Get the job done!

On this the end of the second special session, the budget impasse continues thanks to a Senate Majority that refuses to compromise.
Gov. Jay Inslee called the Legislature back into a third special session this afternoon. He said they must get the job done by July 1 so state services aren’t shut down and 32,000 state employees aren’t laid off.
He said he will veto any proposal from the Senate Majority to kick the can down the road with continuing resolutions to keep some services going without really solving the problem.
The Tacoma News Tribune reported:
“On Wednesday, Inslee said he would veto any temporary budget aimed solely at keeping the government running for a few extra days until lawmakers reach a deal.
“’They do not need more time to get this job done,’ said Inslee, adding he’s been ‘very clear’ on that. ‘They’ve had months to do this.’”

While a shutdown is possible, Federation members today in the news media and in a first-ever evening “tele-union hall meeting” vowed to resist the shutdown and step up the pressure to get a budget done that funds public services and our contracts and makes the wealthy pay their fair share.
More than 3,300 members took part in the call to get updated information on the situation.
When asked if the Senate should get the job done or continue to delay with the cowardly “continuing resolution” idea, 93 percent said “Get the job done!’’
When asked if the wealthy should pay their fair share of taxes to fund the budget, 95% said yes.
The callers got information on what union members have done in recent job actions and in the media. You can see more on today’s media interviews on our Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/wfsec28/
